ABOUT ME

Diane Lopes, RN, BSN

Prepared Childbirth & Newborn Educator for The Loved Child

Happiest Baby Certified Instructor Mount Auburn Hospital

Postpartum Doula PCD (DONA) serving Boston & surrounding communities

CPSM Certified Sleep Consultant

As a Prepared Childbirth & Newborn Instructor for the past 31 years, I have been grateful to be able to educate expectant families to prepare for their labor & delivery and care of their newborn. Personally, as a mom of four grown daughters, I have always believed that while this education was very important, it did not encompass the parents’ whole childbearing story. In essence, there was something missing. For most of the families I worked with, the end of our classes together marked the end of our working relationship. Over time, the idea that I could support a family during the postpartum period was just that for me...an idea. Now, as a certified postpartum doula and sleep consultant, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with families beyond

the initial preparation for labor

and delivery, and to support them as they

make the transition from pregnancy to

parenthood.

I am Red Cross Certified in Adult and Infant CPR and I am currently co-teaching the Family and Friends Infant CPR/Choking Class at Mount Auburn Hospital.

SLEEP SUPPORT

The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that sleep problems affect 25-50 percent of children. That's a lot of unsettled kiddos! Research shows that sleep is important for growth and development (especially in early infancy) and affects attention, mood, vocabulary acquisition, and memory.

Sleep Conditioning (also referred to as sleep shaping) includes setting up healthy sleep habits over a period of time. This includes, but is not limited to, helping a child to learn to fall asleep independently and back to sleep on their own. Questions about how I can help you? Check out my options for sleep support below.

TESTIMONIALS

Straight From the Source

"Diane provided an objective, knowledgeable and caring perspective to our Newborn journey. I felt comforted and more empowered as a mom in her presence and in the days after our meetings." Megan

"Having a newborn in the middle of a pandemic with our parents being far away... I have no idea how we would have managed it all without Diane. From the first bath to setting up proper napping and feeding schedules, to getting ready for our first vacation as a family with a baby. Diane's knowledge and experience are immense, and she generously shared them with us all while being very kind and caring." Tanya

"Diane's ability to help me navigate first-time fatherhood was fantastic. She was instrumental in helping me understand my new role and how I could be more helpful to my family, which allowed me to build early confidence as a father." Victor

"Diane's calming and warm presence has been so reassuring as we make the transition to parents. I cannot say enough positive things about having Diane in our home during this time." Amy

"So many wonderful things to say about Diane and this (Newborn) class! Practical, relatable, day-to-day tips. I loved the emphasis on the widely known Harvey Karp work, but the nuanced knowledge Diane added as a nurse educator/parent/grandmother. I also appreciate the time Diane takes to get to know her clients and the respect she shows for their unique circumstances, choices, questions and beyond. I would highly recommend this class to any parents-to-be!" Melissa

"When my husband and I had our second baby, we already had a 16 month old daughter and a 7 month old puppy we were struggling to manage with no help.  It was also the highest surge of covid cases since the beginning of the pandemic.  It was a very stressful time to say the least.  Diane brought a true sense of calm and warmth to our house when she was here, and she gave us encouragement that lasted through the days when she wasn't.  She helped us come up with strategies for managing each of our 3 little ones and their differing needs.  When she first started working with us, my toddler was not sleeping in her own room.  She took close to 2 hours to fall asleep and would end up in our bed, which made it even more challenging coping with a newborn's nighttime feeding schedule.  Diane helped us to get our toddler sleep trained.  She now sleeps in her crib for a consistent 12 hour period, which has dramatically improved the sleep of our whole household and is something that was hard to imagine a few months ago.  We all love Diane and have learned so much from her.  I am only disappointed that my postpartum period is coming to an end and we will all miss seeing her every week!" Meghan

"Diane is a true gem and our family is so thankful that we had her as a resource for the first few months of our daughter's life. Especially with not having family nearby, Diane stepped in to provide us with essential support as we navigated parenthood and all its beautiful and challenging moments. Diane taught us so many things such as giving baby's first bath, burping, sleep schedules, and establishing routines that were developmentally appropriate. She also cooked us meals, did laundry and even light housekeeping and even walked out dog. It was so wonderful to have such a trusting presence in our home who provided such high quality care to our baby. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to our family and friends."
